From the Sky to the Kite

& the imaginary sky
to fill your wedding church will be him.
not the familiar faces cheered
by candles, splashed with hymns.
not the promise you’ll sacredly utter
in front of god & a thousand petals. not the knot.
not even the groom who on that day
shall see beyond the whiteness you wear.
there will be a yearning prayer
which you’ll keep hushed in your heart.
& with that prayer you’ll know beyond your heart,
beyond the prayer itself, beyond the vignettes
left of you of him—a cup of espresso,
a toothful and thoughtful smile,
kids commemorating him through personalized shirts,
birthdays, christmas, your mother—that
daddy is & will always be your sky.
& you, a little kite now flying away from the earth.
fly, little kite. say I do. & he has loved & loves you too.

I lost it on these lines when I first read it -- I was crying like crazy! (And I didn't get to reply right away na because before I knew it, I was too busy trying to stop crying to type a comment or two).

Thank you, Karlo. We don't know each other that well (aside from those stories from Camz, alam mo naman si switart mo, hehe) and you didn't know my Dad at all, but this poem has captured what the album (or at least my thoughts on this particular picture) is all about. Thank you. Really appreciate it. :)

it's nice to hear that this one tugged a heartstring, even at the expense of you weeping, for, like a good life to your father, it gave way to this poem's purpose: not really to make you cry but to serve as a connective release. you can now burn this poem, and smile. :)
